RE: just curious, where to, and why?

Domino Server 6.0.1 Windows 2000

Where: Exchange (one of the sister companies already went that direction in July). Why: Primarily because they don't want to be "forced" into a particular technology that (to my knowledge) none of the CIOs are wild about. I suspect that some of their concerns are financial -- having to purchase additional software that would be required to run Domino, plus the costs of re-training or obtaining administrators/developers, beefier hardware, etc. -- potential costs associated with implementing a product that they never asked for and didn't bargain on being forced to implement when they purchased Domino. I don't doubt that a good portion of that is a lack of education on their (and certainly on my part) about Websphere, although I'm sure many of them have read more about it than I have. However, it's hard to educate them in a positive light when they seemingly already have their minds made up that they do not want to go to Websphere.

I'm a die-hard Lotus bigot so I'll continue to do all I can to keep the Lotus technologies here, I also understand that IBM wants to implement more of their core software in existing Lotus shops but I just hope they do the dual-path method -- stay on the existing Domino if you want "which we'll continue to develop and support" or go to NextGen if you want. My concern is that if they try to force an additional technology on customers, a lot of shops will reject it, even if that means potentially having to go to Exchange (in which case, I'll be out the door flipping burgers somewhere!)
